Fight for the Family

Hello, my friends! I know how all of you feel about your families and families in general. It seems that the world in which we live is attacking the family on every front. So what are we supposed to do about it? Well, here is a way to stay informed on things that concern the family. United Families International (UFI) was one of the groups who helped organize things in CA regarding Prop 8. There is a bill that is coming up in New Mexico and the concern is that this time around it is going to be a quick session and people in the government are pushing for same sex marriage...here in NM. We need to call our senators. Tell them to stand up for traditional families. My sister is the President of United Families International of New Mexico and will be coming to Albuquerque in the next couple weeks to help us have a voice and to give us some ideas on how we can defend the family. For those of you who are NOT in NM, UFI is in your state as well, and I am sure that you can get involved and become aware of what is going in your own state. At any rate, I thought that you all would appreciate this information.

Here is their website: http://unitedfamilies.org/
You can sign up and get updates sent to your email.
They are on Facebook:

Here is their blog as well.

***President Gordon B. Hinckley: "We recognize and teach that all the people of the earth are of the family of God. The Lord counseled them, “Defend your families even unto bloodshed” (Alma 43:47)."

I was recently reading in the Book of Mormon where the people of Limhi were attacked by the Lamanites, unjustly.

  • "And it came to pass that the people of Limhi began to drive the Lamanites before them: yet they were not half so numerous as the Lamanites. But they fought for their lives, and for their wives and for their children: therefore they exerted themselves and like dragons did they fight."

Let's fight like dragons for something that is this important. Family is worth fighting for. Make the calls, spread the word!! Your family is worth the fight!!!

Lederhosen anyone?

Chelsie L is looking for a size 5 boy Lederhosen for her son to wear to preschool on Friday. If you have something you think may work, please call or respond. Thanks!

Duck Pond?

Does anyone know of a pond with ducks nearby? I know my baby would love to see some, but I don't really want to drive all the way down town just to see some ducks.

Also, I did end up buying a car cake pan. I'd be happy to lend it out. It makes a pretty easy cute cake.

Book Club Location Change

Dora had some unexpected guest come into town. The location has changed to Monique Frost's house at 7108 Cuchillo in the trails. Spread the word.
Directions: head toward the church on Rainbow, turn left on Treeline, then turn on the 1st left (we don't know the name of this street.) Turn right on Las Nutrias, left on Ladron and then left on Cuchillo. Her house is the 1st on the left.

Hope to see you there.

Rock/Gravel Suppliers

Book Club Reminder

Just want to remind everyone that book club is this Thursday at 7:30. Dora T will be hosting it at her house. You can look her up if you need directions. We're reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. This was such a fun book and I know we'll have some wonderful discussions. Come even if you haven't read the book; everyone needs a girls' night out!

Also a reminder that we'll be discussing Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell on November 19th. We'll delay the start time until 8:00 because cub scout pack meeting has been scheduled for that night. I'll be hosting it at my house. Start reading now!

Hope to see you all there!

Doctor Recommendation

Carolyn K is new to the ward and area and is looking for a doctor that specializes in internal medicine. Any referrals would be much appreciated.

"Nie" to Be on Oprah...TODAY!

If you've ever read the blog, "NieNie Dialogues" you will want to watch Oprah today because Stephanie Nielson aka "Nie" will be on the show. You know where I'll be at 4pm!

H1N1 at School

Our local ES posted this on facebook yesterday. Just wanted to pass it along. It's always a good reminder to re-visit the topic of handwashing techniques with our kids. Nothing to be overly concerned about, but certainly something to be aware of. Most teachers I have talked to are still open to receiving more hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes, so that's something to think about if you want to help. Angela B.

We had our first confired case of H1N1 today. We can assure parents we are doing everything we can to keep classrooms clean. Students have access to hand sanatizer too. Our suggestion to parents is if your kids are sick keep them home. We realize it ...can be an inconvience for you, but think of the other students at school.

If You Are on the Fence About Going to Vote Today...

If you are on the fence about going to vote today because you have your kids and you think you'll have to stand in line forever and keep them from climbing the walls, THINK AGAIN! I just got back from voting at VVHS and it took me less than 10 minutes. Yes, you read that right. Less than 10 minutes! Voting is incredibly important, so make the time today to do it!

Just a note...If you take your child in a stroller, you will need to stop at the office to get a key to the elevator (you just have to trade your car keys for the elevator key). As you walk in the entrance to the high school the office is just to your right.

Pumpkin Patch Trip

Here's a great activity to do with your kids that Andrea Rogers would like to invite everyone to:

The Galloping Grace Youth Ranch Pumpkin Patch is open now on Eagle Ranch and Paseo. If you haven't picked out your pumpkins yet. Don't do it yet! If we set up a field trip to this pumpkin patch, it's only $5 a kid. They bring the horses down to the pumpkin patch, the kids get to ride for like 5-6 minutes around the corral, they have a whole fun area for kids to play...like a corn maze, kids play in a big barrell of corn kernels..other fun activities etc...and then pick out a pumpkin that would cost you $5-7 anyways.

Our familily likes to carve pumpkins anyways, so instead of just buying them, we get to do all the fun too. We just need to get together a group of 10 kids..that's like 3-4 families, and they will bring the horses down for us. They will bring the horses down for 2 hours, and then the kids can get on as many times as they want during that time. They are really great with the kids too... So basically for $5 you get a pumpkin, horse rides and fun "fall" activities.
I can help organize groups! Let me know if you are interested, e-mail me what days don't work for you in the afternoon, and I'll organize a fun field trip day. rogersareblessed@gmail.com

All the profit goes to this youth horse ranch. My kids have been participating at their ranch and are loving their experience.

Brown Sugar Anyone?

So I was feeling a little ambitious the other day and ended up buying 25 pounds of brown sugar at Costco! It cost 60 cents a pound (I think at Walmart it is usually around $1 a pound). Now I am realizing that it is way more than I can use before it becomes hard as a rock (and more than I really care to store). So... I am wondering if anyone out there would like to "go in" with me on this sugar. A 5 pound bag (at the Costco rate) is $3. It is C&H medium brown. Let me know if you are interested! :)

ALREADY FOUND A NEW HOME-"Dogloo" Dog House Needs a New Home!

Our dog passed away back in April and we have no need for this Dogloo dog house. I don't have the exact dimensions, but our dog was a Shepard/Lab mix and he weighed about 90lbs. This thing had plenty of room for him. Years and years ago when we had another dog the two of them would crawl in and cuddle up together. So, you get the picture, this thing is big! It is in great condition and we're giving it away for FREE (They go for close to $100 at places like Petsmart). The dogloo is going to Goodwill on Saturday if we don't get any takers. Call or email me kesler999{at}msn{dot}com if you are interested.
