Friday night meeting in Rio Rancho

A little birdie told me that the meeting on Friday Night at 7 PM at San Victorio building will be broadcast to the Rio Rancho Stake Center.... which is a much shorter drive and has more parking...
The birdie shall remain anonymous and you didn't hear it from me....
Just thought I'd pass it along in case the drive and distance were hindering your desire/ability to go hear these general authorities.

ANOTHER NEW PRESCHOOL!

First, I have officially opened my Ms. Emily's Preschool blog!  Here is the link.  I have added two posts so make sure you look at them both.  The last post added is the 2012-2013 curriculum that I will be following.

Upon further thought and work.....I have decided to also have a 3/4 year old preschool on Monday and Wednesday's from 9-12.  This will be for children starting Kindergarten in 2014.  We will be focusing on many of the same things as the 4/5 year old's except that instead of doing sight words and sight books we will be learning about colors, shapes, numbers 1-10, and adding.  The price is $100/month with a non-refundable $50 deposit to secure your spot.  I will cap the class at 6 students.  Please see the post below this one entitled "A NEW PRESCHOOL" for all of the additional information about the Preschool.

A NEW PRESCHOOL!

With the sad news of hearing that the Rivard's are moving, I have decided to keep her Preschool torch going!  I am REALLY excited to start this adventure next year!  I have been doing a ton of planning in anticipation and want to give a quick run-down for any who are interested (I will be setting up a blog with a lot more information in the very near future)!

First, your kids will be in good hands!  I have a degree in education from BYU and have professionally taught preschool, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade for the Challenger Private School System in Orem, Utah!  I will be utilizing a lot of the lesson plans/songs/techniques that I learned there.  Second, I would like to open the preschool up to 4/5 year old's entering Kindergarten the next year.  I am planning on taking only 6 students, plus my own 4 year old.  I am charging $100/month plus a $50 non-refundable deposit for supplies, etc., to secure your spot for the year.  Third, the hours of the preschool will be from 9-12 on Tuesday and Thursday, no lunch!  We will start the week after APS starts and end a week before APS ends to give everyone some breathing room for those busy times of the year!

I am using a unique curriculum to teach the ABC's and numbers that I have already been using this year with my Lukey and have loved all of it!  I will be using a lot of the printouts from this fabulous lady!  On Tuesday's we will focus on recognizing the sounds and sights of the letters through scripture stories/characters.  We will also be learning a primary song and focusing on a scripture each week.  For example, "A" is for Adam and Eve, we will learn the scripture story, focus on 2 Nephi 2:25, and learn the song "Follow the Prophet"!  We will also incorporate 7 different manipulatives per letter as well as various activities and worksheets.  We will be using the Sue Patrick Workbox System on each Tuesday.  We will also learn 1-3 sight words per week and have a total of 26 sight word books to pass off by the end of the year. Then on Thursday's we will reinforce the letter sight and sound by review and also a letter theme.  For example, "A" is for apple: we will be doing apple tasting, graphing, counting, and printing; we will also learn the parts of an apple; learn a couple of "apple" songs, read several books, and have an apple craft.

I wanted to give you a small taste of how my preschool will function!  I have so many ideas and am excited to get a blog up and rolling with much more detailed information, as well as all of the weekly themes and curriculum.  I would love to teach your child and hope you will entrust me with their Pre-K education!  If you have ANY questions please email me at jakeandemilyathotmaildotcom or call me at seven seven zero 468-7733.  Thanks so much!

BABYSITTING PARTY!!!!

Hi Friends,

We had such a good time with some kiddos last month for our babysitting party. We are going to do it again this month, as a little earning money for the kids. The kids were so happy and had a great time because Larsen and Brooke & Taylor were so organized. They started with group games, to snack time, to play time, to "clown" time, and ended with a movie.

We are going to do it again this Friday night, Feb. 24th 5:00-9:00. You drop your kids off so you can go on a date with your sweetie, or just run errands all by yourself. This way your house stays clean (and they get to play with different toys, and kids.) If you could please feed your kids dinner, that would be great. (if you are going to catch like a 7:00 show, and you'll be after that, just let us know.) Last time we had some crackers and marshmallows and raisins. If you want something else for your kids (you are welcome to bring your own snack, and we will give that to them instead.) We are going to try and do this every month, this way you can plan ahead for a great date with your sweetheart. We will let you know a few weeks in advance. :) Let us know if you want to participate... rogersareblessed(at)gmail(dot)com or call (ventana ward list)

I have an orange water bottle and a cherry carmex lip balm that were left at my house after our Potty Party.  If they are yours--let me know so I can get them back to you!
Also, THANK YOU to all those who attended.  I wasn't quite sure how to host a Potty Training Party for HouseParty.com, but I had a great time listening to all of the great tips and advice from all of you!  I've even used a few of the tips in Gavin's potty training and they are helping so THANKS!!

Heidi S. Swinton

Award-winning screenwriter; author, To the Rescue: The Biography of Thomas S. Monson

President Monson has been a servant and example of one who is “on the Lord’s errand.” Sharing little-known experiences from the life of the prophet and her own experience studying that life as his biographer, Heidi offers a powerful message about the importance to “seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written” and about how we can all be instruments in the Lord’s hands.

Dean Hughes

Zion’s Not Far from Here
At times, in our homes or communities, it may feel that we are far from experiencing anything like “Zion.” Although we may not be asked to “gather to Zion” right now, we are still asked to create Zion, and Dean shares some key ways to help us achieve a little more Zion today.

DeAnne Flynn

Author, The Time-Starved Family and A Mother’s Mite

What Mothers Forget to Remember
Mental meltdowns, brain cramps, “momnesia" moments—most of us are all too familiar with frequent forgetfulness. And we sometimes even fail to remember what is truly essential for our families, and for us. But by re-memorizing a few simple principles, by heart, we can (and will) realize greater joy and success as we seek the good in motherhood.

Anthony Sweat

Full-time religious educator; co-author of the best-selling books WHY? and HOW?

The Truth about Charity
We focus on the theme “charity never faileth,” but have we come to understand what that really means? As we understand three aspects, or “truths,” of charity, we will not only have charity but become more like Christ through charity.

Wendy Ulrich

Founder, Sixteen Stones Center for Growth, LLC; author, Forgiving Ourselves and Weakness Is Not Sin

The Sacred Power of Apology
Ineffective apologies can actually make things worse, but practicing the skills of effective apology can unleash great spiritual power in us and others. Wendy shares how this detailed skill can often be the gift to smoothing the path to forgiveness and strengthening relationships.

Laurel Christensen

V.P. Product Development, Deseret Book Company; author, He Loves Us and We Love Him

What Are You Waiting For?
Do you ever feel like you're waiting for a new opportunity or a new week (or a new year)? And while you're waiting, it seems that life is on hold? Although the scriptures invite us to “wait patiently for the Lord” (Psalm 40:1), nowhere do they tell us to sit while we’re waiting. There are things life can’t wait for you to do and that you aren’t expected to wait for—even while you might have to wait on the Lord for a time.

* These listed presenters are committed to attending this event; however, Time Out for Women cannot guarantee that illness or other emergencies will not interfere with this schedule. No refunds or exchanges. We appreciate your understanding.
