Remember the old Donny and Marie variety show? They don't make TV like that anymore. Cheesey but clean. Anyway, I have volumes 1 and 2 of the best of that show. Let me know if you are interested.

Easter Egg Hunt Reminder!

Just a reminder and an update for the Easter Egg Hunt!

Again, it will be THIS Saturday from 12-2pm at The Trails park, just north of the church on Rainbow. Make sure that you bring 12 candy filled eggs for EACH child that will be participating from your family. That way each child gets to find 12 eggs. Because accourding to my children, LIFE HAS TO BE FAIR.

Also, bring a little food to share as we will have potluck first. I figured better to eat real food first and then the candy second. I have plates, and forks and knives, but no cups. So why not everyone bring their own drinks and that way we don't have to worry about lugging in some water only to run out.

We are going to bring a blanket to sit on. There isn't a TON of benches, do bring what you want to sit on, or enjoy the grass. It is supposed to be 60 degrees on Sat...hopefully it will all work out. If it ends up being rainy, we can just come to my house and hang out there.

Hope to see you all there! Pass the word. It should be fun!!

Dinosaur, I mean copy machine for free!

I have a copy machine that is really old, but works if anyone wants it. It weighs about a million pounds. It was quite old, almost as old as me. My sister had it for over 10 years before giving it to me and it has never run out of toner. If it did, you would probably want to get rid of it, it is that old. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks! Susan T.

Need an Orthodontist!!

Easter Egg Hunt...

Hey All!!
We wanted to invite anyone who wants to to join us in an Easter Egg hunt between sessions on Sat April 3rd at the Trails park. I think what would work best is if you bring 12 filled eggs for each child who wants to participate, and we can have the Dads hide the eggs. That way each child can find 12 eggs. We could also make it into a potluck and eat. It would be a little less than 2 hours and then your kids could come back for the second session on Saturday either burned out from all the action or loaded up on chocolate, bouncing off the walls!!
If you are interested in coming and participating and have an opinion on whether a potluck is a good idea, email me at stef.burns@gmail.com. EVERYONE is welcome, even your non-member friends.

advice? help!

Hi all, I've met some of you. We just moved here from Boston and I'm trying to piece our lives back together. Does anyone out there have a favorite:

*adult dentist (already got a suggestion for the pediatric dentist.)
*adult internal medicine doc/family practice doc in the Presbyterian network maybe?
*obgyn (I know someone told me where to go on this one, but I didn't write it down.)
*hair dresser who is good at highlights and doesn't charge a fortune
*karate/kung fu studio (my girls ages 3 and 7 both do it)
*horseback riding farm - English style (we all ride - would love to find a place for lessons and/or summer camp)
*guitar lesson instructor for a beginner (7 year old wants to be a rock star - looking into getting her started. maybe. ;-) )

thanks for everything you've already done to welcome us and help us out. can't wait to meet more of you and get to know you better :-)

Aeration Anyone?

We will be aerating our lawn this weekend, and will be renting a machine.  If a few people want to have their lawn aerated and wouldn't mind helping pitch in for the the cost of the rental it would be great.  You can come and pick it up on Saturday from our house. We will try and pick it up on Friday if the rental place lets us. We are thinking about $20 and the machine is quick and easy to use.  If the weather is bad we'll try it another weekend.  Anyways, let us know if you are interested.

Baby Sitting

Hello all! I am wondering if there is a baby-sitter list for YW/YM in our ward who baby-sit. Or perhaps if anyone can introduce me to a new baby-sitter. We lost our next door neighbor sitter when she moved! I am actually looking for someone who maybe able to watch my kiddos occassionally during the day when school is out. Perhaps someone who is home-schooled looking for a little baby-sitting income$$$. I work 2 days a week and run into problems on parent teacher conference days and other "no school days". Also then in the summer I will need some sitter help as well. Probably not full day... 1/2 day may be enough. My extended family helps out as well. If there is a baby-sitter list out there that would be helpful! my email is dahibben (AT) comcast (DOT) net

nice deal for Chuck E. Cheese's

I promised my kids a trip to Chuck E. Cheese's while they were on break. Their website had a nice coupon on it- 100 tokens for $10. That's a thin dime a token. If you don't think your kids will use all the tokens I bet you can find another mom in the ward to split them with you....
You do have to join their e-club to get access to the coupon. Just give them your email address. It took me less than 5 minutes.

Clothing at Costco "Modbod"

Today when I was at Costco they had one of those limited time only events for a company called Modbod. It's like the Shades clothing, tanktops, and shirts for layering. They are there till the 14. They are based in Springville, Utah, and seemed like good modest shirts.

Good books for future reads

We compiled a list of books that people had read and liked at our last book club meeting. I don't have most of the authors nor can I vouch for their cleanliness. Maybe if you've read one of these and have something to say about it you can post a blurb about it and give it your rating....
On second thoughts, what do you think about making a new blog for the book club where we can hog up more space with book discussions, book club notices, etc? Any volunteers?

Book Club books

We decided to officially set up our list of rotating genres for the club and here it is:
1) Classics
2) Self-help
3) Fiction/ Historical Fiction
4) Sci-fi/ Fantasy
5) Books made into movies
6) Academic/ Non-fiction/ Autobiography

We'd like to stick to the 3rd Thursday of each month, so get your book on time and finish it before the meeting. We're onto genre #4, 5 and 6 and these are the books we selected:

April: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (held on April 15th, 7:30 at Monique F's home in the Trails, Chelsey to lead the discussion)

May: The power of one by Bryce Courtenay (held on May 20th, 7:30 at Melissa S's backyard in the gazebo, discussion leader needed!! Movie to be watched at Chelsey J's home- date TBD)

June: The Happiness Project or, why I spent a year trying to sing in the morning, clean my closets, fight right, read Aristotle, and generally have more fun by Gretchen Rubin (held on June 17th, 7:30 PM, Melissa' backyard, any discussion leaders volunteering?)

Below are listed reviews to whet your appetite for the books. Happy reading!

Review for Ender's Game
Set in Earth's future, the novel presents an imperiled humankind who have barely survived two conflicts with the Formics (an insectoid alien race also known as the "Buggers"). In preparation for an anticipated third invasion, an international fleet maintains a school to find and train future fleet commanders. The world's most talented children, including the novel's protagonist Ender Wiggin, are taken at a very young age to a training center known as the Battle School. There, teachers train them in the arts of war through increasingly difficult games including ones undertaken in zero gravityin the Battle Room where Ender's tactical genius is revealed.

Review for The Power of One
This episodic, melodramatic adaptation of an adult novel tells the story of Peekay, who grows up in South Africa and endures abandonment, bullying, and humiliation for speaking English and for being raised by a black woman. Overcoming adversity, Peekay eventually becomes a welterweight boxing champion. The book effectively portrays racial injustice in WWII-era South Africa during apartheid. Glos. Copyright 2006 Horn Book Guide Reviews

Review for The Happiness Project
For this chatty and intriguing little book, Rubin, a lawyer-turned-writer (Forty Ways To Look at Winston Churchill), undertook a yearlong quest for happiness. A "Resolution Chart" with specific activities for each month (e.g., "Ask for help") helped her define happiness and become happier with her very good life, as did interesting facts from her scholarly research (though there are no footnotes or formal bibliography). Peppering the text are quotes from a vast array of people who have considered happiness, including Aristotle, St. Thérèse, and Viktor Frankl. VERDICT This whole process might have come off as frivolously self-centered but for the excellent points Rubin highlights. Although the excerpts from her blog (www.happinessprojecttoolbox.com) begin to feel like filler, librarians will particularly like how she loves her local library, and self-helpers will be fascinated by her process.—Margaret Cardwell, Memphis, TN

Taxes

Amy H. did our taxes this year and we are getting a lot more money back than we normally do. It was nice having an accountant that knew what to do to get the maximum refund possible! She was also very efficient and professional. Give her a call if you haven't done your taxes yet....it was well worth it for us!!

PTA needs help

The Ventana Ranch Elementary PTA is in DESPERATE need of help. There is a PTA meeting on Tuesday March 9th at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. We will be voting on the budget for next year and talking about upcoming fundraisers. It is $5 to join, however, you don't have to join in order to help with the fundraisers. The first fundraiser is a Craft Fair/Bazaar on April 3rd. We will need volunteers to help with set up and clean up and possibly during the craft fair with selling a few things. The other fundraiser is a jog-a-thon on April 16th. We will need help during the jog-a-thon with keeping track of how many laps the kids have ran. The PTA also needs board members for next year. Voting for new board members will be in May. If you have any questions you can call Shay T. or email me at shay(underscore)bee(at)

Ned Fuller...you be the judge!

Not very often do we get an opportunity to know someone who is actually running for a position in office. Our friend, and your friend, Ned Fuller is running for the Judicial Candidate's Office Court of Appeals Judge Position1. We want to put good men/women into office. I want to be able to help in this good cause. A NM Secretay of State Voter Action Act Qualifying Contibution form needs to be filled out during this qualifying time. (before March 16th) This very simple form and a $5 contibution cash, check, or money order payable to the "Public Election Fund" in support of the applicant candidate is all that is needed. Qualifying contributions must be made by a registered voter.

I want to be able to collect 80 forms and donations. Please help me! If you would be willing to support this candidate, please bring by to my home at 10223 Ventana Oeste Dr. (Ventana Ranch West).
