Canned Cat Food

One of my kitties recently went to kitty heaven, leaving behind 42 cans of Friskies cat food. My other cat won't eat it (he's a dry food kitty). This is the Friskies Pate variety pack you can buy at Costco. If there's anyone who can use it, you can contact me through the Ventana Ward list or at debbie at thewagers dot org and I'll get it to you.
All (Ryan W. here),

Our ward rocks!  We are some of the most generous and awesome people that I've had a pleasure of knowing.

As you all know, our ward signed up to help out several families in another ward.  We as a ward, stepped up and truly made a magnificent effort.  The presents that were wrapped last week by the young men and women were superb, and I sure that they'll be well received.  The young men and women were all amazed at the generosity of the ward.  Thank you!  Thank you again and again!

What we are lacking right now is non-perishable goods for the families.  I understand that this is short notice, but if any of you have extra canned food that we can give to the families as well, we would greatly appreciate it.  We would need the food delivered to Rett Reidhead's house by Tuesday early afternoon.

If you have any questions, please contact myself or Rett.

Thank you again for all that you do, and for helping making this a special Christmas not only for the families, but for our young men and women!  We are delivering everything this Tuesday, and we'll report back soon.

December Book Club

Dear Readers,

We will be hosting December's meeting:

on Thursday, December 20th
at 7:30pm
at Melissa S's home (Volcano Cliffs directory)

We are discussing Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.  It is an incredibly interesting read and pretty quick too, so you still have time if you want to pick it up and get it done.

If so inclined, please bring a favorite Christmas treat or appetizer to share.  No pressure of course.  We will let you in with or without food ;)

If you have never attended our meetings before, we would LOVE to have you!  Please come, even if you haven't read the book.  We'll get you started on the next.

Our book for January will be The Riddlemaster of Hed by Patricia A. McKillip.  Plan for that one if you can't come in December.  We always meet on the third Thursday.

Merry Christmas, and may you enjoy many good books by the fire this season!

Cookie/Goodie and White Elephant Exchange

What's Christmas without goodies? Sniffles...I don't even want to imagine that.  But who wants to make a ton of goodies on their own? Okay, I didn't say who wants to EAT all the goodies on their own, because we know we all want to do that.

I have an idea, let's share.

Why don't you make a bunch of one thing (can be cookies, candy, bars, etc). I will make a bunch of one thing. Everyone will make a bunch of one thing. Then we will all bring our one things to Amber E.'s house next Tues at 12pm and have a bunch of different things.

Sound good?

If this thing-sharing sounds like something you want to be a part of let me, Stef Burns or Susan T know and then we can know better how many things each person needs to bring. I am going to say plan on bringing 3 dozen things unless you hear otherwise.

Also, anyone who wants to participate in a White Elephant exchange just bring a gift that costs NO MORE than $5. It can be less...it is White Elephant remember. But no MORE.

Would love to see all you wonderful women and wish you all Merry Christmas as well. See ya there...with your things!

JON BARRIE

The Independent Candidate for U.S. Senate 7316 Williamsburg Road NW Albuquerque NM 87114 www.jonbarrieforsenate.com jon@jonbarrieforsenate.com 505-999-2118 My heartfelt thanks all of you who voted and supported my campaign efforts. We garnered almost 28,000 votes and sent a clear message to the establishment that there is a growing and organized constituency in New Mexico that yearns for Constitutional principles and common sense politics. You will remember that although we turned in an astonishing 10,000 signatures to the Secretary of State, a remarkable feat for our Barrie Brigade, she ruled that we were short 277 valid names. When we took that ruling to the New Mexico Supreme Court, justice was served and we were able to present an alternative to the establishment candidates. Our campaign is still being talked about across the nation. You should be proud of the inspirational job you did. Shame on the other candidates and their insider Washington friends. They spent over $18 million to buy this election. That works out to be about $24.94 for every voter who cast a ballot. We ran a $29,300 campaign—a new definition of bare bones budget! Now my job is to pay off the creditors: frankly, we are in need of $14,310. The law states that as the candidate, I am personally responsible for these obligations. That’s why I’m asking for your help in retiring this debt. Please help by donating anything you can: $25 or $250; $15 or $150 will help me get out of the red … and back on the front lines of fighting for our lost liberties. www.jonbarrieforsenate.com I don’t know what God has in store for me in the future, but I do know that once my mind is off of paying debts I’ll be free to make some decisions. God Bless you all and let us continue the battle to regain to restore the Constitution. Paid for and authorized by Jon Barrie for U.S. Senate; Robert Bowen, Treasurer

Wii & Movie Trade for Christmas--wish list

Wanted to see if anyone wanted to do a wii game exchange for Christmas. Does anyone have Mario Kart Wii they are not using anymore, or using very much. We have a soccer game, Fifa 2012 that we bought last year, that isn't getting used much. Or a movie trade. Brooke wants the movie, "Ella Enchanted," so I thought I'd see if anyone has it, and doesn't watch it anymore, or would want to do a trade/sale? How about a skateboard in your garage that you are not using anymore you would like to sell? How about a router for a laptop? How about the Magnetix building game for kids? Let me know if you have any of these things you would want to do a trade or sell? Thanks, Andrea rogersareblessed(at)gmail.com

get those holiday cards done!

Sam's Club is offering a sweet little deal on holiday cards.  If you order on Black Friday, you can get 100 4x8 or 6x8 cards with envelopes for $15.  Last year I was able to do it all on the internet and then pick them up at the store after a few days.  The ONLY way I get my cards out every year is by having most of the work done before Thanksgiving because we all know that December is really crazy.  Happy Holidays!

Garage Sale *** Updated!

Hey sisters, I'm having a garage sale this weekend. It's Fall/winter clean out time! Go through your stuff and see what you might want to get rid of ...so you can bring in the new stuff for Christmas. Brad always tells me, "Andrea, if you are going to bring stuff in...you need to get rid of that much stuff." :) You can come over and sell it at our garage sale, or we can sell it for you. Or you can just come and do some swapping with some other mom friends. We all could save a buck or two this Christmas, right? Spread the word! Last year I did a free mom swap, and it was fun. So... Garage Sale This Saturday, November 17th Time: 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. (I sure hope the weather is a little nicer.) Where: Rogers Home: (look on ward list) We have lots of small dog cage, and an x-large dog cage, Christmas decorations, (our little grandparent neighbors gave to the kids so they could sell and make a little money)..that's why I decided to have the garage sale) We also have kids clothes, baby clothes, baby toys, baby big toys scooters, nice bikes that need to be fixed up a little (tires) that we got at a bike auction and never did anything with them (probably like $75....but we are just going to do $10), air hockey table, toys, games, kids books, and other misc. stuff. Also, if you know of anyone looking for a portable stage ...for like a choir or a band. I'm going to post this on craigslist, so if you want to add to this, I will refesh craigslist and add your stuff on there. Thanks sisters! Andrea R. Daytime Book Club

The Daytime bookclub will be reading The Persian Pickle Club for November. It is a quick read and really good!!! See summary below. We will meet at Pei Wei on Coors at 11:00 on Thursday, November 29th to discuss. Stef B and I have a copy to lend out. If you have a book suggestion for January's reading please bring it so we can look it over and vote! Happy Reading!!!
It is the 1930s, and hard times have hit Harveyville, Kansas, where the crops are burning up, and there's not a job to be found. For Queenie Bean, a young farm wife, a highlight of each week is the gathering of the Persian Pickle Club, a group of local ladies dedicated to improving their minds, exchanging gossip, and putting their quilting skills to good use. When a new member of the club stirs up a dark secret, the women must band together to support and protect one another. In her magical, memorable novel, Sandra Dallas explores the ties that unite women through good times and bad.

more good deals on spices

Have you been to John Brooks' grocery store for their spices?  I recently discovered this good deal.  It's in the back behind their produce section and they have a ton of spices in the extra large containers (like a pound or so) for $3-4 each.  They're good quality and you don't have to pay shipping.

San Francisco Herb Company

Just wanted to let you all know of a great place to buy inexpensive spices, nuts, herbs, and other wonderful things in bulk.

Visit https://www.sfherb.com

For example I just bought 1 pound of poppy seeds. At the store a tiny jar cost almost $4. I bought a pound for $2.95.  Sweet, right?

I also like to get their mulling spices for dirt cheap. I put a small amount in a pot with orange slices and let it simmer for a bit during Christmas. My whole house smells so delicious! Plus, the mulling spices make great gifts for VT and neighbors during the holidays.

The shipping isn't bad, but you might as well go in on an order with someone else and save even more!

Happy baking this holiday season!

Anyone need these bottles?

Does anyone need some small storage bottles? We got them when our daughter was in the NICU, but we have tons of unopened (still sterile) bottles that we need to get rid of. They are for storing breast milk, but they would be great for any other things that you'd like to store in small portions. I think each bottle holds about 2-3 ounces. Please call Lisa Justice if you want them!

Lost Blanket

Hello,

Today, Brinley lost her favorite blanket at church.  It is solid pink.  It has one side silk and one side plush with little raised dots all over it.  Also, quiet some time ago, Addison lost his favorite baby green plush blanket at church. It has a turtle on the bottom corner of it and a fish (i think).  It was a very long time ago but he still asks about it all the time.  If someone picked it up and just forgot to get it to us, please let me know.  Also, please let me know if you found Brin's pink blanket.  She will be SO happy to find it.  This girl is attached so I am not sure how she lost it. :)  p.s Sorry if it smells like pee.  She had to have it today and she blew out of her diaper last night.  :(
Thank you!

Hi Ladies!
My work is holding their annual
Treats for Troops
candy donation this
Thursday and Friday (Nov. 1st and Nov. 2nd) from 3:00-6:00 p.m.

If you don't want your kids to consume the amount of candy they have received within the past few days, come in to donate the candy!

Dr. Allman will weigh the candy and give them $1/pound up to 5 pounds of candy. We will also give them a goodie bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, chapstick, pencil, and a handful of coupons from sponsors around town!

It is such a great opportunity for the kids to donate some of their Halloween loot to the troops, and in return they get some money and something to scrub those chompers! Let everyone know and come in and say Hi! I would love to see you all there!

We are holding it at our office-

Jon Barrie for Senate

Hi Friends, Only one month until elections! For those of you that don't know, there isn't just a Republican running for US Senate, or a Democrat, but now Jon Barrie, our family fondly calls "Grandpa Jon" is officially on the ballot, running as an Independent. It's so exciting to have someone right in our neighborhood who has great Christian, conservative values.... To get on the ballot, his campaign needed 6,000 signatures. I was of course a part of the incredible “Barrie Brigade” - we collected over 10,000 names. It was a miracle – the first of many I witnessed. The kids and I had a blast collecting signatures. Then the Secretary of State’s office told us that the campaign was short 277 “valid” signatures! With only days remaining to challenge the decision, Jon fought back and won a spot on the ballot in a ruling by the New Mexico Supreme Court. It was another miracle. Anyone who meets Grandpa Jon, loves him, and appreciates the principles he stands for. But not enough people know who he is. We have 4 weeks to let voters know that they have another choice, and that there is a 3rd voice...Jon Barrie, the Independent candidate. This is why I’m asking for your help. First, visit Jon’s webpage and get to know him and why he’s a great spokesman for liberty and the Constitution. “Friend” him on Facebook. Then send the link to his page to theirs – simply ask them to read and decide for themselves. But please, be quick! The momentum is on Jon Barrie’s side, but don’t take my word about it: here’s what the Albuquerque Journal reported: “Third-party U.S. Senate candidate Jon Barrie says he’s in the race because no one else is talking strongly enough about limited government … recent polls commissioned by both major-party candidates found nearly one in 10 likely voters prefer Barrie.” That’s right, Democrat and Republican Party polls show Jon at 9% but his opponents are trying to buy the election: they’re spending $8 million! We don’t have to outspend the other candidates, just out work them! But your investment now, in the final weeks is urgent. What an exciting time to stand up for the Constitution by backing the real conservative for Senator. We can help restore and make stronger those values that make America a blessed nation. Take a minute, check out his website...and make a donation: $20 or $40 or $200 or $400. Every dollar goes a long way right now. One last thing: in the final weeks we need some pullers at the oars – volunteers. Just a couple of hours a week will help. Again sign up on the website and someone will contact you. If you would like to know more about why I love Grandpa Jon and believe so strongly in his platform, let’s talk! Visit:www.jon4senate.com Your friend, Andrea R. (rogersareblessed(at)gmail(dot)com

Pumpkin Patch Time!

Hey ladies,
Remember, my favorite local non-profit, Galloping Grace Youth Ranch?  Their pumpkin patch starts THIS Saturday!  If you are going to buy pumpkins anyway, please consider buying from them.  They are the nicest people you will ever meet.  Admission to the patch, along with all of the activities for kids there, are FREE.  The only thing you have to pay for is what you buy and take home with you (pumpkins, fall decorations, things from their general store.)  This is their biggest fundraiser and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the ranch to feed horses, take care of the animals, rescue abused horses, and improve the ranch facilities, which then is all used to allow children to ride for free in the summer.  Everyone you will see working at the patch is doing so on a volunteer basis.
If you have never been there before, it is a blast.  Here's the link to their website with all the info:

Burns Annual Halloween Carnival

Hello Friends!

It is that time of year again. I love it! Look forward to it every year. Leaves changing, weather changing, love it all!!! With Fall comes our annual Halloween Carnival.

It is going to be Sat. October 13 from 4:30-6:30ish. We are going to do it at the park just north of Walgreen's this year. It's an awesome park with lots of tables and room.

Here's how it works. Everyone is invited. The more the merrier.

We have dinner...I provide hot dogs, buns and homemade root beer. You provide the sides and the desserts. They can be Halloween related or not. We aren't picky.

Every family needs to bring some sort of game/activity/booth to share as well. It is always so fun to see fun games people bring. We have had photo booth, face painting, pumpkin bowling, a cake walk, bobbing for doughnuts, bean bag toss, etc. The possibilities are endless.

So in order to avoid have duplicate games, it has worked well to have everyone email me and let me know what game you are planning. Also to let me know what you are bringing for potluck (like side, dessert, condiments, main dish, etc) so that we don't have too many of one thing.

It's FUN. It's FREE. It's for the FAMILY! It doesn't get any better than this.  Please email me if you are interested (stef.burns at gmail.com) so we can get this thing started.

Recipe Club: Apples! Apples!

I love Fall!! And it is almost here. Whoot!

This month for recipe group we are using apples.

It can be a new recipe. Something old. A technique you have never used or one you are an expert at. Appliscious is the name, eating it is our game.

This month it will be next Tues, Sept 11 at 12:00pm at Kellie H.'s house...the new one.

Let's try something new, shall we. One of the reasons we have this group is to share recipes...that way you know what the recipe tastes like and can decide if you want to add it to your favorites or quietly hope you never have to taste that again.

If possible, can you send me (stef.burns at gmail.com) your recipe before hand that way I can have it to put on the blog. You can take a picture of the recipe, type it out, send me the link. I am not picky. Just want to be able to share all the yumminess that you have to offer. If you forget to send it before hand, just bring a copy of it to the recipe group. And if you still forget, just send me an email.

Let's share our apple recipes! See ya there!!!

Little girl princess bike and stroller

Miss K has out grown her adorable princess bike. It's in very good condition, only needs air in the tires. I'm asking $40 or best offer.

I also have a very nice stroller that I'd like to sell. This stroller is great for infants because you can turn the seat to face you as you walk and it reclines well. It has other nice features. It's in good condition, besides being dirty, but it's missing a clip on the strap. I'm asking $20 or best offer.

If interested please call, text, or email me at rebecca{dot}pinon{at}gmail{dot}com.

FREE car seat

I have K's old car seat that we no longer need. I bought it shortly after her 1st birthday. It's yours for the taking, provided your willing to wash it; it's pretty dirty! Call, text, or email me if your interested --rebecca{dot}pinon{at}gmail{dot}com.

Thanks!

how to easily separate an egg from the white

Did you know you can easily separate an egg from it's white?  The video below (in Chinese, strangely enough) demonstrates it as such:
1) crack your egg and empty everything onto a dish
2) hold an empty plastic water bottle above it, one with a narrow neck.
3) squeeze the bottle gently (like you're crushing it) and then put the lip of the bottle over the yolk
4) release your hand's pressure on the bottle and the air pressure within the bottle will suck up ONLY the yolk.
5) squeeze the bottle over your desired drop location (another dish, the sink, etc.) and the yolk will pop back out of the bottle.  How simple and amazing is that?

This will be my new method of separating eggs.  I'm very impressed!

If you can help out, that would be great!

Hey guys!

We invented this cool children's toy and needed some suggestions on how to sell it online, get it recognized by google and on other search engines, and what needs to be done to make it look better/sound better on the website: buildeez.weebly.com.  Also, if you know of a better place to go to design a website, we would like info. on that too.
Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.  If anyone has done something like this before and would like to help us out, we would really appreciate it!

I have decided to become a consultant for Shelf Reliance, and I am looking for some people to host parties.  I know there have already been a few, but if there is anyone out there who wants to host one, they are super fun and informative.  Their freeze dried foods are delicious, and I have been building up my food storage and using their foods in my cooking everyday!  Check out www.shelfreliance.com, and let me know if you are interested.  I can help you order some, but if you want to host a party you will earn a good deal of free food.  I just hosted a party and earned over $100 of free food!  Plus a bunch more at 50% off.  You can't beat that deal!  I am super excited to do my first party, so please let me know if you want to be the host for me!  You can email me at carriejelmore{@}gmail{dot}com.

Modest Shabby Apple Dress Giveaway

I hate to use this as a plug to my Take It From Me review and giveaway blog, but I was given the opportunity to give away a dress from Shabby Apple.  I love Shabby Apple because their company stays true to modesty with the most gorgeous dresses which all have sleeves and are knee length or longer!  I have been so upset with companies lately who were founded on modest fashions and yet when I look through their catalogs, I see anything and everything far from modesty.  Shabby Apple is a little pricey for my every day purchases, but lucky for me, I get to give one away for FREE!

Quick and easy spiritual thoughts in the morning...

With school starting back again I thought I'd share this idea with all of you. Hope it helps your family too!

I know the school mornings are crazy, but ideally it would be great to send our kiddos off to school with a little extra gospel strength in their reserve. Since our family reads scriptures in the evening together, I like to have a spiritual thought each morning, but I never have time to plan one.

Here is an idea:

On the front and back cover of the Ensign is usually a beautiful picture and scripture or brief story or history. The Friend also has a picture or two each month and so does the New Era. It is not exact each month, but you get my point.

I tear these out and save them. When I have time, I laminate them to pretty paper and file them away in my "spiritual message" box. (Can you tell I just sat down and laminated a pile that had been staring at for me a while!) Each morning I can conveniently pull one out and use it as our spiritual message in the morning. We talk about it over breakfast.

It takes a few months to gather enough to get started, but you can always go online and print them. Just start stashing them now and you'll realize you have tons very quickly. Once you've gone through them all, go through them again and again!

I love this because:

The pictures are often not common gospel pictures we see regularly, or ever!
I love introducing them to amazing artist, like Carl Bloch, while having a spiritual message.
The stories and pictures reference scriptures, people, or church history.
Kids love pictures, sometimes these stick more than a scripture in the morning.
It is a nice way to build your own gospel library of pictures.
And they are great for FHE
...I could go on!

To add to this collection, collect your handouts from church and other activities and add them to your "spiritual message" box.

Anyway, this is just an idea that makes me excited so I thought I would share.
