Finale Party!

Ok, I know it's somewhat trashy and silly, but I'll admit it - I watch the bachelorette and any other fans out there know that this Monday night is the finale! So this is an invite to those who watch, and also to those who don't, to come watch the drama unfold, eat treats, and hang out with the girls! The show starts promptly at 7pm so bring a treat to share and come enjoy!

Leave a comment on this post, or give me a call if you plan to attend. My phone # and address are on the ward list.

Go Chris!! or maybe I want her to pick Roberto because I really like Chris and I think she'll just break his heart. ha ha fun times!! :)

See you all Monday!

lost camera

I lost my camera at the ward party the other night. It is a Nikon coolpix S230. It's a small, purple pocket size camera and it was in the case. It doesn't have my name on it anywhere, but the screen on the back of the camera has a crack in it. If anyone found it could you please call or email. My phone number is on the ward list. My email is shay(underscore)bee(at)hotmail(dot)com

Tending Job

My friend in the Taylor Ranch ward has been watching this little girl, Madaline, for the past year and is not able to this year. She was wondering if there are any takers in our ward. She said she is a super easy to watch.

Info:

Madaline: age 2 1/2
Mom: Janae Conway (some of you might know here since she teaches at James Monroe Middle School). I know of her but have not talked to her. Our husband worked together for about a year. Great family.
Situation: Janae is looking for ONE or TWO people to watch Madaline while she teaches. Hours are M-F  7:30am to 3:30pm with an occasional 4:30pm and she pays $30 a day. Of course with two people, the days would be split up.

If you are interested, you can contact Janae at 872-2813

Reading reading all the while

For you readers:

We are DESPERATELY in need of a discussion leader for August's book club discussion of "The happiness project". I personally read it and loved it but due to lack of sleep I think I better not lead the group. I'm flat out not coherent enough to help guide a decent discussion. Do we have any takers?

We had 2 people suggest "A Woman of Independent Means" by Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey for September's book and after reading the synopsis I echo the vote. Read below.

Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey wrote A Woman of Independent Means in 1978, when to most Americans feminism was beginning to become associated with angry politicos who neglected their femininity and were capable of shocking radicalism. This book, however, portrays a very different ideal for the capable, socially responsible woman of the Twentieth Century. The character Bess Steed Garner was partially inspired by the feminist movement of the 1970s, and partially based on the author's grandmother. When Hailey told her husband of her intention to write a novel called Letters from A Runaway Wife, he responded, "Runaway wives are a passing fad. Why don't you write about somebody who doesn't have to leave home to be liberated? Why don't you write about somebody like your grandmother?" Therefore, in the life of her heroine, Hailey portrays a domestic feminist, a woman who is not only confident about her gender's equality, but who proves it every day in her judicious maintenance of her home and finances, her unfailing support of her husbands, family, and friends, and her personal, independent engagement with the world around her. The letters that comprise this book—both personal and business letters—reveal that Bess's liberation is not only manifest in what she does, but in how she regards herself and her position in the various contexts of life.

We should probably pick a sci-fi/fantasy book for October as a group since I've only gotten 1 suggestion per book based on the following list. Do your research and come with an opinion on what you'd like to read for this month.

Wings by April Lynn Pike
Loviathyn by Scott Westerfield (author of the Pretties and the uglies)
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Lord of the Rings by J.R. Tolkien
Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Dune
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
The Amaranth Enchantment by Julie Berry
The Road - Cormac McCarthy

Reminder: Book club is open to all and meets the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7:30 PM. Meetings continue to be held in the Spencer family backyard through October, weather permitting.

Transfer videos to computer

I have all my camcorder videos just sitting in a drawer and I'd really like to put them on my computer so I can put them on a DVD for viewing. Is anyone computer savey enough to know how to do this. I should be able to plug my camera into my computer and transfer video footage, but I don't have a cord and I don't know if I need a special program. Any suggestions or advice?

verizon phone

Does anyone have an old used verizon phone they don't want? My phone was dropped in water by my son... I don't quite trust craigslist. If not, does anyone have advice on where to get a cheap phone? I am not picky, just need it to call. Thanks!

Art Classes

Just wanted to let you all know...

I'll be teaching art classes at my house for children 5-9 years old. Hip hip hooray!

Your kids will learn real art techniques and skills, that are age appropriate, through FUN and ZANY projects.

When: August 2nd - 6th
Time: 10 - 11:30am
Some example projects we have done in the past: 'Finger and Feet Paint'in', 'Sweet Treat People', Tie Dye Gardens', and 'Silly Still Lifes'
Cost: $75 per child and that will include all of the materials - except one. Your child will be responsible for bringing their own cover-up. Daddy's old, button up, long sleeve shirts work great. (Either way, don't wear your nice clothes!)

I like to keep this age group to no more than 8 kids per class. If more would like to attend I'll try to pull together another class before school starts. Let me know if you are interested.

Defined Fitness Membership

Hi Ladies,

I thought I would pass this on because it is such an awesome deal and I have LOVED this gym.  The group fitness classes are so good.  I love Les Mills classes and they have Body Pump and Body Combat.

Defined Fitness is offering a $4 sign up fee (instead of the $50 I paid!) and the monthly membership cost varies.  I know its $35 if you are employed by UNM and I think they have other corporate memberships too.

It is a Month to Month membership, you can stop and start whenever and you never have to pay the sign up again.

Child care is FREE!!!!  And I really like the girls in the Kids Corner, they actually pay attention to your children and its clean!

Anyway I thought I would pass this along because I have really enjoyed working out at Defined.  I go to the Riverside location, but your membership includes all of the gym locations and Rio Rancho is pretty close too.

This deal lasts until July 14th, I think!

Leapfrog Tag Reading System

Toys R Us has their Leapfrog Tag Reading System on clearance for 14.98, down from 49.99. These are great for helping your child learn to read. This is the new one that holds 10 books- mine only holds 5!!! It is the purple pen only and comes with the hard cover book Cat in the Hat.

A Huge Favor

I know this is so much to ask (on such short notice too) but we need some help loading a moving truck on Monday morning, July 5th. My brother, Michael Malarsie and his new wife Jesse have their belongings in the Guardian Storage Facility on Paradise and Eagle Ranch road. We will be loading their stuff into the truck Monday morning at 9am and could really use some help if anyone is available. Please email me at bnljustice AT gmail DOT com or call Brad or Lisa Justice (number listed in the ward directory) as soon as possible if you would be willing to help.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Finalized plans for tonight

For anyone interested:

We're seeing Eclipse at 8:00 at the Cottonwood movie theaters. We will be eating at Pei Wei at 6:00. If you would like to come with us, you can check and see if there are any tickets available and purchase your own. When I last asked them, there were plenty left for that showing. And if you don't want to see Eclipse but do want to join us for dinner, that's great too! Just let us know so we know who to look for.

Anyone who asked me to buy them tickets:

Tickets are bought and we're good to go! If you're not meeting us for dinner, call someone on their cell phone so we can all meet up together. Give me a call on my home phone if you need to know my cell phone number!

Hope to see you tonight!
