I have all my camcorder videos just sitting in a drawer and I'd really like to put them on my computer so I can put them on a DVD for viewing. Is anyone computer savey enough to know how to do this. I have a sony video camera that takes a "Mini DV" tape. I should be able to plug my camera into my computer and transfer video footage, but I don't have a cord and I don't know if I need a special program. Any suggestions or advice?
Here's what Aaron said: You'll likely need a firewire cable and your computer will need a firewire port. It depends on your video camera. He said it may just be easier to give someone (like him) the tapes and have them do it for you.
ReplyDeleteYou will need a firewire cable. I have a video camera that I bought in 2004(also mini dv tapes) and it's compatible with a firewire so you shouldn't have a big problem there. Each tape is 60 minutes, and you have to let it play, and basically do nothing else on your computer for the hour. :) My computer came with Windows Movie Maker as a program to use. It's decent to capture the video, and you can cut seconds out of areas that there are dead moments, etc. I am in the process of trying to burn mine to dvd and that has been a nightmare. It's family History for the digital age! I can show you how I do mine if you're interested! Angela B.
