shuttle service needed

My sister is getting married on Friday and her wedding reception is at my house. We're having guests park next door at the school and are needing someone to shuttle guests back and forth (since most won't want to hop the fence like my kids do daily!)
Needed: a person with their own vehicle, mini-van preferable, insurance and drivers license to shuttle guests to and from the school and our house.

4th Annual Burns Halloween Carnival

I love this time of year. Not because by this time of year I am totally broke and only have spending to look forward to in the months to come. That's not why I love it.

I love the weather change and the fun and the food and the excitement that begins in October.

One of those things is our annual Burns Halloween Carnival. Food. Fun. Fright. Okay, not really fright, but whatever. This year we are going to do it Friday, October 21 from 4:30-whenever. (unless there is a trunk or treat...then we will do it the week before.) We are going to keep it at the Seville neighborhood park...off Keyenta and Irving, the same park as last year. 
Here's how it works.

You bring a dish of food and a Halloween game to share. Voila! Carnival. It has been a lot of fun in the past and have no doubt it will be again this year.

RSVP is necessary to keep things organized. It helps us avoid duplicated game and food. So please email me, stef.burns @ gmail.com if you are interested in attending and let me know what food and game you want to bring.

Craft Day

Hi Ladies!

I've been wanting to do some crafts, and it's always more fun with friends!  On October 13th (around 7 or so) I'll be hosting a get together to get a few holiday crafts done.  If you'd like to do any of the crafts listed below, email me (debrarivardAThotmailDOTcom) and let me know so that I can get you more information on what exactly they will look like.  If there are enough people interested, I'm more than happy to get all of the supplies for us.  These crafts are all very inexpensive to do.  They shouldn't be more than $5-10 depending on the quantity you choose.

Halloween:  glitter or spray paint pumpkins, and vinyl on a plate (exs.: BOO, skull, bat, cat, etc.)

Thanksgiving:  "give thanks" vinyl on a charger

Christmas:  customizable clear ornaments (with paint and ribbon)

These are the things I'll be doing, but if you have some thing/s that you've been needing to work on feel free to bring them!

Would anyone be interested in taking a sewing class taught by me? It's an idea I have been thinking about for a while now so I thought I would gauge interest ;) I would teach the classes at my house. Zoo Trip

With the cooler weather my boys and I are going to take a trip to the zoo Friday morning. Anyone who would like to join us is welcome. Let's meet at 9:30 in front of the flamingos. A little random

I know this may be a little random, but I was talking to some ladies in the Mother's Room on Sunday and they were talking about going to Disneyland for Halloween.  I think they were from the VC ward, but I know they often read this blog too.  One of them wanted to go to Legoland and I found that Legoland is offering FREE Admission into Legoland, October 24th-30th, to all their LEGO-VIP Members!

Baby Co-Sleeper Bed

Hello Sisters! My baby is due in a about a month, and I am hoping to borrow a co-sleeper bed for the first couple of months (Oct - Dec) after he is born. Here is a pic of the type of contraption I am hoping to borrow. It is like a bassinet or pack-n-play except one edge is lower and sits flush with the parent's mattress, so you can easily pull the baby over to nurse and then put him back into his own bed without having to get up. I hear most of these co-sleeper beds are adjustable up to 30". I would also welcome any advice or suggestions regarding this type of sleeping arrangement :). Thanks ladies! Mod Bod is at Costco

Mod Bod is selling their great tees and tanks at Costco this week. This is the Costco off I-40 and Eubank. The address is 500 Eubank. They started today and will be there for 10 days. Then they are coming to the Westside for a week or so. They sell great tanks and tees. The tees run about $26 for 2 and the tanks closer to $20. You can check their stuff out here.

Holiday Preschool!

I am SO excited for the holidays to come that I have gone over board in my planning this year. As I was looking through and going over all the fun activities and crafts I want to do with my kids this upcoming three months, I thought it might be fun to offer them to anyone else out there that might be interested. Here's what I was thinking:

I want to do a little preschool for kids during the holiday months. It will be once a week, (most likely a few hours on Friday) where I have gathered the materials for a holiday craft, fun lesson or game, and send them home with a wicked awesome treat and/or something to do at home. I have some really fun ideas and i'm excited! It will need to be $100 for 9 weeks because of all the materials and work. I was thinking i'd start not next week, but the week after and kick it off with General Conference. (I know it's not totally a holiday, but it's cool). I was thinking:


_September 30th- General Conference (I'd make some Conference kits to help listen to Conference and we could play a few games & have a treat
-October 7th- BATS
-October 14th-PUMPKINS.
October 21st-SPOOKY...There will be a gallery of boxes for kids to stick their hands inside and guess what creepy things they are touching. We will also be making slime... Possibility of a small haunted house.
Nov 4th-THANKFUL..We would assemble homeless kits or do an act of service
Nov11th-PILGRIMS
Nov 18th-SCAREROW
Dec 2nd-GINGERBREAD... We will make homemade gingerbread houses, or you can collect the things i've gathered to do at home with your family
Dec 9th-Nativity. We will learn about Jesus's birth. I also thought it would be fun to all get together and sing at a nursing home.


This is a rough idea of what would happen, because more will be added. Parents are welcome to join and participate, or drop your kids off for a few hours of fun. I just want to know if anyone is interested. Let me know if you are so I can see if I should even make it a group effort or not. Happy Holidays! Can't wait!

Wednesday Zumba

Wednesday's Zumba will now be done with weights. It is recommended that you have 1 or 2 lb weights. They are not required. Come tone with us!!!

FYI this class is at 8:45 Wednesday mornings. There is also a Thursday at 6:30 pm class and a Friday morning class at 8:45.

Ventana Ward Relief Society Temple Group

Hi Ladies,
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.  
My season for being more committed to temple attendance has come.  Now that my youngest child has started school, I truly have the time and the ability to go to the temple on a more regular basis.  As a RS presidency, we wanted to be able to offer a time when you know you can go with another sister.  Obviously, this is going to be more convenient for those in my stage of life (a stay-at-home mom with no kids at home!)  But, any and all endowed sisters with current recommends are welcome to join.  Feel free to trade babysitting with someone else so that you can go every other month if that works for you.  Do not feel guilty if this is not your season to do this kind of service.

I am going to try to do the first Tuesday of every month at 10am.  This should leave ample time to get kids off to school, drive, and have time to get ready.  I will aim to start on Tuesday, October 4th.
If you would like to carpool with me, let me know.  Otherwise, feel free to just show up for the 10am session.

Feel free to come once, twice, every month, every other month... whenever you can.  I will try to come every single month unless I have a conflict.

Book Club Thursday night in the Gazebo

Come to our book club meeting this Thursday nigh for the last meeting of the summer (sort of) outside (weather permitting, bring a jacket and blanket) in the Spencer gazebo. I am so excited that the theme for SEPTEMBER'S recipe exchange lunch is APPLES! Nothing spells fall like apples.....besides pumpkin (but that is for October). Free pool!

Julie F. has a pool if anyone would like it.  It is 18 feet diameter by about 4.5 feet deep.  The metal frame and siding, filter and pump are reusable, but it will need a new vinyl liner.  If you would like any or all of these parts, please give her a call.  (# in the VC ward directory)

If you ever need a Plumber....

I was in Albuquerque last week to supervise the move of our house in Ventana. Talk about sad!!! :(  I had a plumbing emergency and called my go to guy, Rick Carlisle from VC Ward, for help. He was out of town and referred me to a friend of his, Mick Harris of Community Plumbing and Heating LLC.

If you ever need a plumber, call Mick! This guy was awesome and was at my house in under an hour...keep in mind it was Friday night before Labor Day and he still dropped everything to come and help me! He did a great job and had everything wrapped up really quick. I was so grateful for his help and didn't feel like I was being ripped off either. I told him that I was so impressed that I would advertise his business info here...
