Scripture Study
Well, I have found a lot of things that I put on my Church Board in pinterest, but I still wanted a journal for my kids to work with.
Long story, short (too late!) I made up five different page options (using another ladies wording) for a scripture journal, the first for a pre-K writer and the last something that I will use. Then, because we are going to start the Book of Mormon over again, I put in the Scripture Mastery key words in a traceable font for the preschool set in the same format. This lady (NOT ME!) has developed this lovely little printable that can be printed on clear(ish) sticker paper, and applied directly to your scriptures. These are the same keywords that I used.
Please e-mail me at girlpowerjedi(at)hotmail(dot)com if you would like a copy of the file. It is a pdf and I do not know how to upload it. Sorry!

a sister in need
I hope no one minds that I'm doing this. But, I thought I should let people know...
Sister Harrington (in Ventana Ward) is currently hospitalized and will be having surgery this morning. I don't know who she knows in either ward, but I know that she would love it if the people she knows called her to wish her well this afternoon (or visit her if you are so inclined.) I hate putting more info than that on the blog, so if you would like to contact her, please e-mail me at michechapman(at)gmail(dot)com and I can give you her hospital/room/phone info.
Thanks!

flashlights & popcorn
The flashlights are AWESOME. They come in a 3 pack for $20. They are waterproof. One is powered by shaking it, one is solar powered (can even be charged by headlights from your car and holds a charge for years!), and one clips to the brim of a hat. These are the best, most versatile flashlights I've ever owned. These ARE NOT available in stores so don't miss out getting them now. Great for 72 hour kits, keeping under your sink or in your car, and make great gifts.
Also, there are 5 or 6 different varieties of popcorn that they're selling (and who doesn't love having an instant snack around?)
They're at the Lowe's near Cottonwood mall today until 4:30PM or you can get them from any scout in the ward (or contact Rebecca H. and she'll make sure you get what you need.)
If you need her contact info or names of any scouts selling the goods you can email me at melissa dot lee dot spencer at gmail dot com.

Service project for book club on Thursday
I thought that since it's December and time to think about giving, perhaps it would be fun to do a little service project as part of book club. There are so many people right now around Albuquerque who could use a little extra help this time of year, but it's often hard to know what to do that will really make a difference. I'd like to put together "blessing bags" for us to keep in our cars so that we can pass them out to those in need rather than giving money. Here's a link that talks about blessing bags:
http://kwavs.blogspot.com/2011/05/blessing-bags-how-to.html
If you'd like to help by bringing something to put in the bags, it would be greatly appreciated. Here are some things that would be good to have in the bags:
Gallon size Ziplock bags - Michelle
chapstick - Melissa (30)
packages of tissues - Darbie (30)
toothbrush and toothpaste
comb - Darbie (30)
soap - Monique
trail mix
granola bars - Melissa (30)
crackers - Chelsey (30)
pack of gum - Darbie (30)
band aids - Melissa (30)
baby wipes - Monique
deodorant - Darbie (5)
shampoo and conditioner - Monique
lotion
Capri-Sun - Darbie (10), Chelsey (20)
Pass-along cards - Chelsey (30)
Toiletries should be sample size so that we can fit them in the gallon bags. Please bring items in multiples of 5 (or more). Feel free to raid your stash of samples that you've collected (you know you've got one!).
If you would like to participate, email me at chelsey DOT jorgensen AT gmail DOT com and let me know what you'd like to bring. If you can bring more than one type of item, great! I will be updating the list on the blog as I receive emails so that we can have a good variety of things to put in our blessing bags. We'll be putting these together after the book club discussion, so if you're not going to be able to be at book club for the discussion, come at 9 to help with the bags. It won't be a hard or time consuming project, but I think it could make a difference for someone.

Who wants my extra Leap Frog Leappad?
To keep a long story short... After many days of calling every store in New Mexico and looking on every possible website that sells the Leap Frog Leappad, I finally tracked some down. This is one of those toys, like Tickle Me Elmo, that are in high demand and nearly impossible to get. Even nationwide. But I have two. One for my kids and one extra. If anyone wants it (and can appreciate all that went into getting my hands on it) they can buy it from me. It cost $100 plus taxes. It is possible to buy online still, like through Amazon and Ebay, but they are selling for minimum of $175. Let me know and happy shopping for your kiddos, husband, and of course, your self! - Rachael B. rachaelboyle(at)gmail(dot)com

ASL Classes
I'm going to be teaching two ASL this go round. (around? round? whatever.) ASL 1 for beginners and ASL 2 for those who made it through my first class.
It's a 10 week class, every Thursday. You don't need anything...just show up at my house and learn. I will have video of a really cute guy (my husband) signing the words posted on the class blog. That way you can review and practice the signs whenever you want and also share it with your family so you can all pretend to be deaf. Won't that be fun!
Classes start Thursday Jan 12.
ASL 1 will be from 9-10am
ASL 2 will be from 10:30-11:30am.
The classes are free. They are fun. If nothing else it is an hour to socialize with friends in another language. Bonus!!
Please, let me know if you are interested in taking the class this time around. You can call me...if you know my number. You can email me stef.burns at gmail.com. You can leave a comment here. Just let me know so I can make plans.

Preschool Busy Bag Swap
What is a busy bag?
A busy bag is a self-contained activity geared toward preschoolers that fits in a gallon sized ziploc bag and can be stored easily. The activity is easily transportable and no additional supplies should be needed to be added to the bag.
Why make busy bags?
These are a great way to keep a toddler/preschooler busy for 15-30 minutes at a time. I have made 15 bags this fall and I grab a couple and take them to appointments, church or use them at home while I nurse my baby. My daughter loves them and I like that she is learning something and staying busy. These are perfect for the upcoming winter months when we will be inside a lot more.
What are the group guidelines?
1. Make 15 of your busy bag activity (the same activity 15 times)
2. Activity should be geared to the preschool crowd - 2.5-5 year old
3. Activity should be gender neutral
4. Activity needs to fit into a gallon sized ziploc bag
5. Paper pieces should be laminated (I have a laminator I can lend out but you will need to provide your own laminating sheets)
6. Busy bags should be self contained and resuable - nothing should have to be added to the bag over time
7. Busy bag should be convenient and not require any major set up or clean up (no paint, liquids, sand, etc.)
6. There is a spending cap of $20 for all 15 activities (feel free to do it for less though!)
What is the deadline?
I would like to swap bags on December 8. These would be a great Christmas gift for your preschooler!
Where can I get activity ideas?
There are TONS of busy bag ideas out there online. A lot of these links include printables/directions to make the activity. Here are a few links to activity ideas

How to sign up?
Please leave a comment on this blog post that includes your email address. I will take the first 14 people who sign up making it a total of 15 people. PLEASE only sign up if you are able to create your bags by the December 8 deadline. I will email the group members once I have 14 participants and we can hammer out some details and share our activities to avoid duplications.
Please call or email with additional questions

Campaign Meeting
an awesome opportunity to help local children
For those who aren't aware:
The APS clothing bank is a place where students from APS schools can go to receive clothes to wear to school. It is run by the local PTA council. Only children who are referred by their school can receive these clothes. They TRULY go to kids who do not have anything suitable to wear to school (which is actually a pretty high number in some areas and yes, there are several students from our local schools here in Ventana who do use the service too.) When you think about "suitable to wear to school," we're talking about kids who come in clothes that are many sizes too small, or may literally only have one set of clothing and come in the same thing every day for weeks, often without washing. I believe when they are referred, they are given two complete sets of clothing.
The APS clothing bank has made a plea to the community to help soon. Otherwise, they will have to shut their doors before winter break. They are nearly empty. They are in special need of coats and jeans from sizes pre-K to high school (adult sizes.) They also need other gently used clothing in those sizes, as well as clean and well cared for stuffed animals, backpacks, and toys. Socks, shoes, and underwear MUST BE NEW. For sanitary purposes, they do not accept used socks, shoes or underwear. Also, especially, in the high school sizes, they do like things to be of current style so that the kids fit in better at school.
Please help! If you have donations, you can drop them off at Tierra Antigua this week, just inside the main doors near the office. Or, if you want to drop them off at my house, I would be happy to take them up to the school as well. You can leave them under my covered front porch anytime. Look me up in the directory or contact me at michechapman(at)gmail(dot)com
You can also make a monetary donation if you wish. But, if you choose to do this, you must make it directly to the clothing bank. Send it to:
BCCPTA clothing bank
P.O. Box 92675
Albuquerque, NM 87119
Thank you! Wouldn't it be awesome if we could fill that balloon trailer? That would really be a lot of clothes and would help so many kids.

Ventana Ward RS Temple morning
Let's try this again. I plan to do another temple session on November 1st at 10am. All endowed sisters with current recommends are invited. Hope to see ya there! If you want to carpool, e-mail me at michechapman(at)gmail(dot)com
Since I was the only one who went last time, please let me know if there is some way to make it more convenient. Does afternoon work better? I don't mind that I was the only one who went, but the point is to make it easier for sisters to attend the temple with a friend. I can go pretty much anytime I want by myself, so, let me know if you have suggestions for a different day or time for future months. (We'll stick with November 1st at 10am for this one.) I can't cut into the evenings because of my own kids' schedules, and I feel that weekends should be left for couples to go, but I'm open to different weekdays/times. If you ARE interested in being part of this group, and want to build an e-mail list so we can chat about it, send me a note at the e-mail address above.
Thanks!

Mall Deals
Yesterday when I was at the mall I found 2 great deals. At Bath and Body Works they have their Halloween stuff at 75% off. There wasn't alot left, but they had the antibacterial pocket bacs for 37 cents each. Also, JCPenny had some of their backpacks at $1.97. They were mostly plain or boyish. They were not character backpacks. They had some X Games over the shoulder sling backpacks in that sale. Go here to see one style they had. They had tons so if you are looking for a back up backpack for your junior high school er whose first backpack ripped 2 weeks into school because the thing weighed 50pounds, this would be the deal for you. Or me truthfully. Happy Shopping!

Where can I find beaded trim?
We're looking for beaded trim for Naomi's Halloween costume. We've checked JoAnn and Hancock, but they don't have anything that's just what we want. Any ideas where else we should look?
Thanks,
Debbie W.

Busy Mom Book Club
If you didn't get a chance to read last month's book, you should read it. It was outstanding. "Wildwood Dancing." Great book. No, really. It is good!!
This month we are going to read "Hattie Big Sky" by Kirby Larson.
For most of her life, sixteen-year-old Hattie Brooks has been shuttled from one distant relative to another. Tired of being Hattie Here-and-There, she summons the courage to leave Iowa and move all by herself to Vida, Montana, to prove up on her late uncle’s homestead claim. "At least now my letters will be more interesting," she writers to her good friend, Charlie, who is fighting the Kaiser in France.
Under the big sky, Hattie braves hard weather, hard times, a cantankerous cow, and her own hopeless hand at the cookstove. Her quest to make a home is championed by new neighbors Perilee Mueller, her German husband, and their children. For the first time in her life, Hattie feels part of a family, finding the strength to stand up against Traft Martin’s schemes to buy her out and against increasing pressure to be a "loyal" American at a time when anything—or anyone—German is suspect. Despite daily trials, Hattie continues to work her uncle’s claim until an unforeseen tragedy causes her to search her soul for the real meaning of home.
Lovingly stitched together from Kirby Larson’s own family history, and the sights, sounds and scents of a homesteading life, this young pioneer’s story celebrates the true spirit of independence.
It is a great, light, easy reading book, perfect for this time of year.
We will meet Nov. 8 at Jenny C. house. We will post the time later but it will be during the day. Hope to see you all there!

Washer/Dryer anyone?
We have a washer and dryer for sale. The pair is about 10 years old. The only service we've ever had on it was to replace a mechanism on the lid, and it's worked great ever since. It's not the largest capacity but it's not too small either. If you want to come look at it, let me know. We're going to ask $200 for the pair on Craig's list starting around the middle of the month. We would love it, though, if we could give it to someone who was in real need of it, for even less than that if needed. We would need someone to come pick it up to take it away. Our number is in the Ventana directory or email me at jaezbrown(at)gmail(dot)com Thanks! Angela
